RAJSHAHI,  – A ten-day sports festival began at Rajshahi University (RU) today amid participation of a large number of its students in various events.

RU is hosting the festival at its Sheikh Kamal Stadium to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee of independence.

Vice-chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar inaugurated the festival through hoisting national flag and releasing balloons, festoons and pigeons before a large number of teachers, students, competitors and other onlookers as chief guest.

Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Chowdhury Jakaria and Prof Sultanul-Ul-Islam and RUCSU Treasurer Prof Abul Kalam Azad, among others, were present.

Around 800 students from 17 dormitories are taking part in 114 events, including athletics, football, handball and basketball, of the ten-day sports festival. Closing ceremony will be held at the same venue on December 13.
