
DHAKA : The Department of English of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) began the third consecutive year of its literary extravaganza, “Lit Fest 2023,” with pride on Sunday, a press release said.
The four-day celebration began on Sunday, with an array of festivities, enlightening seminars, workshops, captivating cultural programs and concert that promised to be a testimony to the enduring power of literature.
The official kickoff of “Lit Fest 2023” began with a spirited rally attended by renowned guests, faculty, alumni, students, and staff, portraying an energetic display of literary enthusiasm.
Among the luminaries present were Professor Dr. Md. Abu Hashan Bhuiyan, Honorable Vice Chancellor (Acting), UITS, Professor Dr. Siraj Uddin Ahmed, Honorable Treasurer, Professor A. N. M. Shareef, Controller of Examination, UITS, Ms. Syeda Afsana Ferdousi, Honorable Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (FLASS), and Ms. Naima Afrin respected Head of the Department of English, along with other faculty members.
The festival’s first day featured an enlightening seminar titled “Literature, Language, and Life.” This intellectually stimulating event was held at 11:00 am, Sunday in the Ratnagarva Tahmina Rahman Multipurpose Hall at UITS Permanent Campus. The seminar, graced by valiant freedom fighter Professor Kaiser Haq as the Chief Guest and Professor Dr. Sayeedur Rahman as the Special Guest, explored into the profound vivacity that literature exhales into our existence.
Following the seminar, the festival continued with a workshop entitled “Competitive Advantages of Skilled Workers in the Current Corporate Market.” This workshop aimed to equip the final year students of the Department of English at UITS with the skills and abilities needed to thrive in the contemporary corporate world. Distinguished keynote speaker Ms. Khaleda Parvin Ruma, Human Capital and Development Manage, Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Dhaka, shared her insights and expertise with the students, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
We find ourselves at the start of a remarkable chapter in the history of the Department of English at UITS as the pages of “Lit Fest 2023” turn. In the midst of this literary celebration, we enthusiastically look forward to the days that lie ahead, which will no doubt be filled with even more exciting occasions and captivating pursuits.
