Tofail terms observation over 16th amendment verdict as political

DHAKA – Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today termed the observation given over the verdict of the 16th amendment to the Bangladesh Constitution by the Supreme Court (SC) as political, reports BSS.

“At first BNP made remarks over the verdict while Awami League refrained from making any comments over it … but we think the observation given by SC over the 16th amendment to the constitution is a political one,” he said addressing a discussion as the chief guest at Teacher-Student Center (TSC) Auditorium on Dhaka University (DU) campus marking the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organized the discussion, addressed, among others by Prime Minister’s Assistant Private Secretary Saifuzzaman Shikhar, BCL Central President Saifur Rahman Sohag and General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain.

DU unit President of BCL Abid Al Hasan presided over the function.

“BNP became very happy over the observation given on the verdict… but it should be remembered that such kind of observation is unexpected from the country’s apex court,” Tofail said.

Mentioning, Bangabandhu had a dream of transforming the country into ‘Sonar Bangla’, the minister said adding his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is now working to materialize his dream.
