Bangladeshi journalist R M Niaz Mahmud, as a youth journalist and social worker, wins the "Global Youth Leadership Award 2025" from the Global Youth Parliament, one of the largest youth organizations in the world.
He has been nominated for this award in recognition of his contributions to youth motivators, social movements, awareness, and empowerment in trade and economy through writings.
The award-giving ceremony was held titled "Global Youth Leadership Summit & Award 2025” on Saturday in Kathmandu, Nepal. The country’s former prime minister, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, handed over the award as a chief guest at the summit.
Niaz has been nominated for this year's award in recognition of his significant contribution in two fields: journalism and social work.
Niaz is working as a special correspondent with The Bangladesh Today, which is the leading English daily newspaper in Bangladesh. His working areas are finance, the economy, the stock market, the private sector, and the garment sector.
The Global Youth Parliament organizes the Global Youth Leadership Awards annually to recognize youth leaders from around the world. The organization also encourages young people to work in social work, entrepreneurship, democracy, and sustainable development for a better world and helps bring together innovative young leaders from around the world.
Niaz is a former Finance Secretary of the Capital Market Journalists' Forum (CMJF) in Bangladesh. He was the former general secretary of the Dhaka College Journalist Association (DCJA). Also, the founder director of a public library, which is named "Motaleb-Rabeya Memorial Library & Computer Lab,” and the general secretary of the CPJ Society, a social organization in Barisal, Bangladesh.
Over 12 years, he gained expertise in business/economic reporting. I was awarded the CSE-CMJF Best Reporting Award in 2017.
Previously, Niaz was a senior reporter for The Business Post and a staff reporter for The Dhaka Tribune, Daily Share Biz, and the online news portal, Risingbd.com.
He covered the 2024 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, which were held in Washington, D.C., between in 2024.
Also covered the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79), which was held in New York City, US, between 10-24 September 2024. He also covered the roadshow-styled “Rising of Bengal Tiger: Potentials of Bangladesh Capital Markets” in Dubai in 2021 and attended a conference titled “The New Fintech 2019” in Shenzhen, China.
