National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz has said that a fascist regime can be established in the country due to lack of institutional weaknesses in the governance system over the last 53 years. 
 
He made the remarks at the beginning of a discussion between the Aam Janata Party and the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad here today. 
 
Commission members Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain and the chief adviser's special assistant Monir Haider were present at the talk.
 
Ali Riaz said, "The goal of the Consensus Commission is to create a universally acceptable national charter through discussions with everyone, which will create a roadmap for the future of Bangladesh. The commission's continued discussions with political parties will act as a catalyst in building a new Bangladesh."
 
Aam Janata Party president Mia Moshiuzzaman led the 12-member delegation. The party's general secretary Md. Tarique Rahman, organising secretary Faisal Ahmed and executive members - Sadhana Mahal and Tamanna Shikha, among others - were present.
 
The National Consensus Commission, headed by the interim government's chief adviser, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, was formed with the goal of forging national consensus on reforms of the state. The commission officially began its journey on February 15.
 
The commission identified the crucial recommendations made in the reports of five reform commissions - the constitution reform commission, the public administration reform commission, the electoral system reform commission, the judiciary reform commission and the ACC reform commission - and sought opinions from political parties.
 
Later, the commission sent a set of recommendations in a spreadsheet format to 38 political parties, asking them to send their precise outlooks on the significant reform recommendations by March 13.
 
With Aam Janata Party, a total of 35 political parties submitted their respective opinions to the Consensus Commission.
 
The National Consensus Commission began formal dialogue on March 20 to finalise the recommendations made by the reform commissions.
