Limited OTT content this Eid-ul-Azha as new web series stay away

TBT REPORT

Since the rise of OTT platforms in Bangladesh, Eid seasons have typically brought an array of original web content. This year, however, the line-up appears noticeably thinner. Across local streaming platforms, original productions are limited, with only two new web films, one dubbed foreign microdrama, and several theatrical releases from Eid-ul-Fitr making their digital debut. Notably, no new web series have been announced for the season.

‘Tajmahal’ on Bongo

Web film “Tajmahal”, directed by Wahid Anam, tells a story of love, distance and emotional connection between two people living on opposite sides of the border. According to the director, the project goes beyond a conventional romance and explores themes of waiting, relationships and human emotion.

The film also marks the Bangladeshi industry debut of West Bengal actress Sreeja Dutta, who plays Mumtaz. Opposite her, Foyjul Yamin appears as Taj. The cast also includes AKM Hasan and Maliha Medha.

“Tajmahal” will begin streaming on Bongo from Eid day.

In addition, Kajal Arefin Ome’s “Bachelor Point 5” released Chapter 12 ahead of Eid.

‘Sarar Songshar’ on iScreen

Filmmaker Aka Reza Ghalib has adapted Kazi Anwar Hossain’s novel “Artonad” into the web film “Sarar Songshar”. Sadia Islam Mou plays the titular role of Sara.

The story follows a woman who kills her daughter’s secret lover one night. Fearing social stigma if the police discover the truth, she attempts to conceal the incident and dispose of the body. However, complications arise when police begin investigating the missing man.

The cast also includes Gazi Rakayet, Rashed Mamun Apu, Nafis Ahmed, Nafisa Maliat Promi and Ehtesham Ahmed Tinku.

“Sarar Songshar” is scheduled for release on iScreen on May 26.

Dubbed microdrama on Deepto Play

Deepto Play will release the Bangla-dubbed microdrama “Gopon Somrat” during Eid.

The action-thriller follows Ye Chen, the sole survivor of a brutal attack on his family two decades earlier. Raised with a desire for revenge, he later discovers that the person responsible for the murders is his own father’s adopted daughter.

The Bangla dubbing project was supervised by project director Khairul Alam Himu, with voice performances provided by Deepto TV’s dubbing team.

Eid-ul-Fitr films arrive on OTT

Four films released during Eid-ul-Fitr are also making their OTT debut this Eid season.

Redoan Rony’s “Domm”, starring Afran Nisho, Puja Chery and Chanchal Chowdhury, began streaming on Chorki from May 21.

OTT platform Utshob launched on May 22 with the films “Prince” and “Rakkhosh”. Directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud, “Prince” stars Shakib Khan, Tasnia Farin and Jyotirmoyee Kundu. “Rakkhosh”, directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, features Siam Ahmed and Susmita Chatterjee.

Meanwhile, “Bonolota Express”, one of the most commercially successful films of Eid-ul-Fitr, premieres today on Hoichoi. Directed by Tanim Noor and based on Humayun Ahmed’s novel “Kichukkhon”, the film stars Mosharraf Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Sabila Nur and Sariful Razz.
