Maatrubhumi trailer cleared after months of delay, makers eye December release

The official trailer for the Salman Khan-starrer Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace received clearance from the Censor Board on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The Apoorva Lakhia directorial also features actor Chitrangada Singh in a crucial role.

According to official records in Bollywood Hungama’s report, the trailer received a U/A 16+ certificate with a runtime of 4 minutes and 43 seconds. Despite the trailer clearance, the film’s theatrical arrival on its earlier expected date of November 6 appears improbable due to delays in securing the full feature’s censor certificate.

The report indicates that the producers are now evaluating a new release schedule, targeting either November 20 or December 11, with Jio Studios handling all-India theatrical distribution.

Initially announced under the title Battle Of Galwan before being renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace earlier this year, the feature is based on the 2020 military standoff between India and China. The project previously encountered clearance hurdles regarding its thematic content and references to China, particularly amidst evolving diplomatic relations between the two nations, before receiving government clearance. An official announcement regarding the revised theatrical date is expected shortly.

In the upcoming war drama, Salman portrays Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, the Commanding Officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment who led Indian troops during the 2020 Galwan Valley clash and was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra.

Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace captures Colonel Santosh Babu’s tactical leadership, resilience, and supreme sacrifice along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The narrative centres on his character to anchor both the realistic military action sequences and the underlying emotional core of the conflict.

The film also features actors Mukesh Rishi, Ankur Bhatia, Zeyn Shaw, and Abhilash Chaudhary in key roles, portraying military officers and key personnel involved in the border operation. Actor Vijay Raaz lends his voice as the narrator, grounding the historical and tactical context.
