Two dead, 3 million people affected in flood

Almost three million people have been affected and two persons died in flood in eight districts of the
country.

Additional Secretary of Disaster Management and Relief Ministry KM Ali Reza disclosed the information at a press conference on the flood situation at the Secretariat here today.

He said Feni, Cumilla, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Chattogram, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Brahmanbaria districts have been affected in the flood since August 20.

One person died in Feni and other one in Brahmanbaria district in the flood, Ali Reza said adding that flood hit 357 unions under 50 upazilas in eights districts leaving 29,04,964 people of 4,40,840 families as stranded.

A total of 75,668 people and 7459 cattle were given shelter to 1534 shelter centers while 444 medical teams have been opened for providing treatment to affected people in eight districts, he said.

Ali Reza said relief distribution activity is going on in the flood-hit districts. Taka 1.82 crore (cash), 13,650 tonnes of rice and 11,000 packets of dry foods have been allotted for the eight districts and there are reserve of sufficient relief goods at all districts of the country.
