Motivate people for using renewable energy: Hamid

DHAKA : President Abdul Hamid on Thursday stressed motivating grassroots people for using renewable energy as electricity generation is very expensive and requires huge investment, reports UNB.
“We have to consider the energy security for the future generation. We have to keep in mind that electricity generation is very expensive which needs huge investment,” he said.
The President said this while addressing the inaugural function of ‘Electricity Fair and National Electricity Week 2015’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
Abdul Hamia further said, “We have to come out of the mentality of using electricity at our own sweet will. We have to be economical in using electricity thinking about the future generation.”
The President said it is necessary to reduce system loss, increase the use of environment-friendly renewable energy by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and inspire people at the grassroots for using renewable energy.
Mentioning the importance of electricity for socio-economic development, Hamid said power and development are complimentary to each other and go hand in hand. “Electricity is essential in all spheres of development, including industries, agriculture, treatment, information technology and communication.”
The government has attached the top most priority to the power sector considering its importance and it has already taken short-, medium- and long-term programmes for the development of the sector, he said, adding that steps have been taken to import power from India and other Saarc countries.
