World Radio Day today

DHAKA : The World Radio Day, 2014, a day to celebrate radio as a medium, will be observed in the country as else where across the globe in a befitting manner.
The United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) in its 36 general conference on November 3, 2011 has approved a proposal to celebrate the day on February 13 across the world.
The objective of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of radio, facilitate access to information through radio and enhance networking among broadcasters.
The government, Bangladesh Betar and private radio stations in the country have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day through airing special programmes highlighting the significance of the day.
Under the programmes, Bangladesh Betar will bring out a colourful rally from National museum tomorrow at 9.30 am as Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu will lead the rally.
In the afternoon, a seminar titled “Problems, Prospects and Development of Radio in Bangladesh” would be organized at Bangladesh Betar Bhaban in the city’s Sher-e-Banglanagar at 3.30 pm.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam will attend the seminar as the chief guest.
Later, a cultural function would be held at Betar Bhaban at 7.00pm. Social Welfare Minister Mohsin Ali will be the chief guest in the function.
Apart from these, private radio stations will organize separate programmes highlighting the importance of the day.
