Train hit during salvage operation
CHITTAGONG : Two Bangladesh Railway employees were killed as they were hit by a train during an operation to salvage a derailed train at Chota Kamaldah in Mirersharai upazila early hours of Sunday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Harunur Rashid, 52, of Feni district, and Mohammad Raza Mia, 50 of Borokatia village in Mirersharai upazila.
Sukumar Bhoumik, Railway East Zone divisional manager, said Sylhet-bound ‘Jalalabad Express’ train from Chittagong veered off the tracks at Chota Kamaldah on Saturday night.
On information, a relief train went to the spot to rescue the train.
When the rescue operation was about to be completed, a Dhaka-bound train from Chittagong, running on the second track, hit Rashid and Raza while they were standing by the rail lines at about 12:30 am, leaving them dead on the spot. Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
