Weekend courses defended at JU

Shahadar Sumon, JU Correspondent: The agitating teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University on Friday continued ongoing strike for the seventh consecutive days demanding the resignation of Vice-chancellor Prof Farzana Islam over graft in mega project.

As part of their ongoing movement, they defended the weekend programes under different departments on Friday.

Due to strike, classes and examinations of all weekend programes under different departments were remain suspended.

From 9 am, they took position in front of different academic buildings by locking the main entrances so that students of the weekend programe could not take part their regular classes and exams. They continued the blockade program till 3.30 pm.

At the end of the day, they announced to defend weekend programes on the campus on Saturday at a press meet that was held at the ‘VC Removal Mancha’.

One of the coordinator of the platform Professor Jamal Uddin said, ‘JU Vice Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam is responsible for this deadlock condition on the campus. The government should take initiative to run the university after the VC’s removal’.

‘University administration is trying to harass teachers and students associated with the movement by law enforcers and inelegancies groups. It will accelerate our movement. We will go tougher movement if the VC does not resign from her post as early as possible’, he added.

Professor Tarek Reza of Bangla department, Professor Hasan Mahmud of Geography and Environment, Professor Fazlul Karim Patwari of IIT, Vice President of Chhatra Union, JU unit Nayemul Alam Mishu and Convener of Chhatra Adhikar Parishad Sahkil Uzzaman were present at the press meet.
