TIB urge `ACC` to inquiry on graft at JU

Shahadat Sumon, JU Correspondent: A section of teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University on Sunday continued their strike for the ninth consecutive days demanding the removal of vice-chancellor Farzana Islam over graft in mega project.

The protestors under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ blocked both new and old administrative buildings from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Sunday. Due to the strike, administrative activities were almost halted.

Around 1.00 pm, protesters brought out a procession from ‘Vice Chancellor Removal Mancha’. After parading different streets on the campus, the procession terminated at old administrative building.

Meanwhile, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has urged Anti Corruption Commission (DUDAK) to investigate the allegations of irregularities and corruption against JU Vice Chancellor Prof. Farzana Islam in development project of the university through a press release on Sunday. They also urged Farzana Islam to resign from her post temporary for a fair investigation.

TIB Executive Iftekharuzzaman in a statement said that the removal of two top leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League, was a positive move but it was not enough in terms of ensuring transparency and accountability.

Accountability of both the student leaders have not yet ensured under the legal procedure and the investigation into the allegation brought against the VC and her family members has not been done yet despite having an allegation, Iftekharuzzaman said.

Mentionable, University administration files lawsuit against anonymous 40-50 protesters claiming an attack on assistant protor Mahibur Rouf Shaibal while arguing with the protesters cantering the deadlock on academic and administrative activities.

Therefore, on Saturday evening protesting Teachers and Students brought out a protest march against the harassment of administration under false lawsuit.
