IUTA election today

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY,  – The election of Islamic University Teachers’ Association (IUTA) is being held today. A total of 37 candidates from Awami League, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-backed teachers’ alliances are contesting for 15 posts, election commissioner office sources said here yesterday.

The voting is being held at room no-427 of Arts Faculty building from 9:30am to 1:30pm without any break. Professor of Law Department M Shahjahan Mondol and Prof of Islamic History and Culture Department Dr M Jahangir Hossain are contesting from Awami League- backed faction for president and general secretary posts respectively while Prof of Accounting and Information System Department Dr Mizanoor Rahman and Prof of Arabic Language and Literature Department Professor Dr M Mahbubur Rahman are contesting from the BNP-Jamaat panel.

Meantime, Chairman of Management Department Prof Dr ASM Sharfaraz Newaz and Prof of Public Administration Department Mohammad Selim are also contesting for president and general secretary respectively from ‘Shada Dal’, another BNP- backed faction. IUTA Chief Election Commissioner Professor KM Abdus Sobahan said all the necessary preparations have been taken to hold the polls in a peaceful atmosphere.
