Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain today inaugurated Laxmipur launch terminal under Muladi upazila in the district, an official handout said.
The launch terminal will brought an end to the long-standing sufferings of the commuters from Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali and Dhaka making their travel easier, safer and cost-effective, Sakhawat said while inaugurating the terminal.
The terminal will also play an important role in expanding trade and commerce in agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors, he said.
The adviser said the government aims to ensure balanced development in every region of the country by harnessing the immense potential of Bangladesh as a riverine nation.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mustafa and officials of the Ministry of Shipping and BIWTA were present.
