

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called for ensuring due recognition and dignity for genuine freedom fighters while preserving the true history and upholding the glory of the Liberation War.
He made the call when a 12-member delegation of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council, led by its Convener Bir Muktijoddha Naim Jahangir paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban, President's Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam told BSS.
The President said the nation remembers the sacrifices and contributions of freedom fighters with deep respect, adding that it is the responsibility of the state to preserve their honour and dignity and ensure the preparation of an appropriate list of genuine freedom fighters and their recognition.
He also said everyone must remain responsible and cautious in preserving and presenting the history of the Liberation War so that no confusion or ambiguity is created.
Urging all to uphold the historical values of the country's independence, sovereignty and Liberation War, the President said it is crucial to continue the country's democratic journey while prioritising national interests.
The delegation sought the President's support and cooperation for the welfare of freedom fighters.
They said fake freedom fighters had been recognized during the previous fascist regime and that the true history, ideals and spirit of the Liberation War had been distorted through a particular narrative, which had polluted the country's political environment.
They also informed the President of their plan to organise a peaceful rally on their own initiative.
The President assured them that the issues raised regarding the welfare and protection of the dignity of freedom fighters would be duly considered.
Other members of the delegation were Maj (Retd) Syed Munibur Rahman, Sadek Ahmed Khan, Syed Abul Bashar, Sirajul Haque, Alhaj Md Mansur Ali Sarker, Anil Baran Roy, Alhaj Md Nurul Islam, Jahangir Kabir, Engineer Zakaria Ahmed, Md Nurul Basar and Mizanur Rahman Khan (Bir Pratik).
The President's Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary were also present.
