Victory Day celebrated in DU

DHAKA,  – Dhaka University (DU) authorities today celebrated the 50th Great Victory Day paying tributes to the war heroes. The day’s programmes included hoisting of the national flag, placing wreaths at the national mausoleum at Savar, exhibition of documentary films and cultural programmes.

The celebration heralded with setting off firecrackers at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture at the Teacher-Student center (TSC) intersection around 12.05am, organized by a TSC-based students’ organization ‘Slogan 71′.

In the morning, university teachers, students, officers and employees led by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Akhtaruzzaman paid tributes to the Liberation War martyrs at the Savar National mausoleum.

To mark the day, VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated a photo exhibition on “Sangbadpatre Bijoygatha” (Victory tales in the Newspapers) under the auspices of Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA), at the TSC.

Various establishments including TSC, Arts building, Karzon hall were illuminated on the occasion.

Special prayers were also offered at the Central Mosque of the university and other places of worship, seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs who embraced martyrdom for achieving independence.
