Multitalented and a shining star Tasnim Mim has already won thousands of hearts with her singing. Her unique melodious voice has gained her alot of fame, appreciation and awards too. A down to earth young star, Mim along with music, is a also a model and an actress. Recently The Bangladesh Today held an exclusive conversation with Mim.

TBT: Who inspired you to become a singer?
Mim: My inspiration was my late sister who sadly passed away on 2000. She was a singer. Maybe i was 1 or 2 yrs old during the time. She had a hermonium which i used to play with around 3 years later and used to sing Sa Re Ga Ma and watch my neighbor singing. Later when i six years old my mother took me to Bulbul Lalitakala Academy. There a sir told my mother that i have a very good voice and i should learn singing. Then i got admitted to the academy but during that age i was not so much concerned about becoming a singer. Gradually i got involved with it and fell in love with it.

TBT: Did you hear any of song sung by your sister?
Mim: Yes i did. And my sister also received a lot of crests and awards aswell. She was involved with singing, dance and peom recitation too. She was an allrounder. My mother always wanted me to be like my sister so desire and love for becoming a singer came from there.

TBT: When was your first stage performance as a singer?
Mim: I first performed at stage when i was in third grade. It was back in 2005 or 2006. I remember i got 200 taka for my performance. I was very excited and happy. I was a student of Shishu Academy at that time and usually used to do stage programmes from there. Later i joined Shilpakala Academy and did various stage programmes there aswell.

TBT: Did you ever thought about becoming an actress or a model?
Mim: I always wanted to become an actress since i was in sixth grade. That was my dream. My father is an engineer and has an engineering institution called IBA. Every year a programme is held with the children of the engineers. I once performed there. I acted at a stage play which was instructed by a director of BTV. He was very impressed with my acting and urged my parents to let me act more. But my mother refused and i thought let me make a place as a singer then i can automatically switch to other options too in the media. I had to stuggle alot as my background isnt a media background and to make a place for oneself is tough here. But i didn’t give up. While i was studying SSC i used to go to a studion in Moghbazar and one day i did a humming of a song of RJ Noyon. That was my first ever studio experience. Later i used to go to the studio frequently and used learn and gather experience about all the things including composers. Then i decided to record my own song.

TBT: Which year did you first record your solo song?
Mim: It was in 2019. Before that i did a song in 2016 along with 3 other people on anti-militancy after the Holy Artisan attack. We did it along with Ishrafil Alam MP. It was very well received among the audience and we also received an award for it. In 2019 i recorded a cover song but in 2021 my first single song ‘Beshamal’ was released and was a huge hit and very well appreciated. Since then i started getting calls from various labels and also worked with them. Till now 9 songs of mine has been released.

TBT: Now have you got involved in anything else in media rather than singing?
Mim: I did a couple of photoshoots for some luxury brands. I was lucky to have some known people who offered me for the shoots. It was a good experience. Recently i eneded a shooting of a drama titled ‘Shob Somar Dosh’. The drama will be aired on channel 9 on December 16. My role is of one of the three main characters of the drama. I had lots of fun and enjoyed every moment of it. If i get more chance then I will definitely act more. Then recently i got an offer to sing for a movie. Talk is going on, it has’nt been finalized yet. So kinda passing some busy time these days and also as im studying EEE at East West University and in my final year so my concentration is also on studies as well

TBT: As you are still at the early stage of your career, what is your amibition now? Stick with media or engineering or both?
Mim: I think a person can maintain dual occupation if he or she wants or desires. I will definately do a job after my graduation and besides i want to continue singing. Because there is no disturbance either in singing or recording. A women can maintain her career after taking care of her family. I want to continue to work in media. It is now a place close to my heart. I recently signed a project with a company for 10 songs. Gradually I’m working on those. I want to continue in acting as well.

TBT: As an artist now you an inspiration to many. What advice do u want to give them?
Mim: I just want to say that dont listen to others while fulfilling your dreams or wishes. Dont let others to be an obstacle. People will say a lot of things but one needs to have the courage and faith and work really hard to fulfill their wishes. Sucess will always be there and once successful those people will appreciate you. So never give up while listening to others. Do what your heart and mind says.

TBT: You are an inspiration to many youngsters of country and hope you inspire more in coming days with your beautiful works. Thank you
Mim: Thank you too.
