SUNAMGANJ, BANGLADESH– In response to severe flash flooding across Bangladesh's Sylhet Division, HOPE worldwide Bangladesh, with support from VFS Global, launched an emergency relief initiative on 22 September 2026 to assist communities in Fatehpur Union under Bishwambarpur Upazila, Sunamganj.
Following a rapid field assessment, 1,000 vulnerable households across seven heavily affected villages, namely Bishwambarpur, Bahadurpur, Raipur, Kandarhati, Bagarhati, Laxmipur and Chandargaon, were identified for support. Relief operations are directly benefiting these families through the distribution of nutrition and health packages containing essential food items including rice, pulses, oil, potatoes, onions and salt.
Yummi Talwar, Chief Operating Officer - South Asia, VFS Global, said, “Supporting communities during times of adversity is an important part of our commitment to creating a positive social impact. We are grateful to partner with HOPE worldwide Bangladesh in delivering timely relief to families impacted by the recent floods in Sunamganj. While the challenges remain significant, we hope this initiative helps meet immediate needs and demonstrates the power of collective action in supporting vulnerable communities.”
Martin Animesh Byapari, Country Manager of HOPE worldwide Bangladesh, said, “We sincerely thank VFS Global for its generous funding and support. Their contribution is enabling us to provide essential food and health assistance to vulnerable flood-affected families, bringing hope and practical help to communities in need.”
To ensure equitable distribution, local volunteers are supporting relief operations, with boats delivering assistance directly to households in flooded and hard-to-reach areas. Special attention is being given to elderly residents, children and persons with special needs.
