Bengal Film Society has officially received registration from the Bangladesh Film Certification Board under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The organisation was formed following an initiative by filmmaker and organiser Jibon Shahadat, with the aim of promoting, expanding, developing and improving the quality of Bangla cinema. Popular lyricist, writer and journalist Anurup Aich is the president of the organisation, while several well-known film personalities and journalists have joined in different positions.
After receiving the registration certificate from Bangladesh Film Certification Board Vice-Chairman Abdur Rahman recently, General Secretary Jibon Shahadat said the organisation aims to work in accordance with the Film Societies Act, 2011.
“Our goal is to promote the growth and development of Bangla cinema among Bengali-speaking audiences in Bangladesh and across the world,” he said, expressing gratitude to the ministry and the Film Certification Board.
President Anurup Aich said Bengal Film Society would particularly focus on supporting young filmmakers from marginalised and remote areas. Many aspiring filmmakers have completed short films but remain unable to screen them due to a lack of opportunities, he noted.
