Thakurgaon ready to welcome President on first hometown visit

Thakurgaon, where Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spent his childhood, is buzzing with preparations to welcome him on his first visit to his hometown as President.

The alleys, markets, neighbourhoods and roads once familiar to him are now being ready for his arrival with an atmosphere of festivity prevailing.

Arches are being erected at various points and decorative lights installed, while administrative officials and employees, political leaders and activists are working round the clock. Municipal workers are also working day and night to make the town clean and orderly.
People are eagerly awaiting the President’s arrival, with growing curiosity and excitement among ordinary residents alongside the extensive administrative preparations.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to arrive in his home district Thakurgaon on a two-day official visit on Sunday.

District administration has made extensive preparations for the state visit, public interest and emotion surrounding it appeared even greater.

Security measures have also been strengthened across the district. Members of the Special Security Force (SSF), President Guard Regiment (PGR) and intelligence agencies are working at the field level, while additional security has been put in place at the scheduled venues, along travel routes and in other important areas.

Convener of the President’s Reception Committee Dr Abu Md Khairul Kabir said, “He is not only the President, he is a son of Thakurgaon. After a long time, he is returning to his own people while holding the country’s highest constitutional post.”

“His return is a moment of immense pride and emotion for us. We want the people of Thakurgaon to welcome him with love and respect,” he added.

District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin said the President’s first visit to his home district is a matter of joy, pride and emotion for the people of Thakurgaon.

He said the President has a longstanding emotional bond with the people of the district, and his visit has generated widespread enthusiasm and excitement among people from all walks of life.

Officials said all necessary preparations have been made by the district administration for the President’s visit.

 “Work is being carried out in coordination with the relevant departments, agencies and law enforcement forces to ensure that every programme of the visit is completed smoothly, properly and without disruption,” he said.

Thakurgaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Belal Hossain said, the highest level of security measures has been taken in Thakurgaon surrounding the President’s visit. Every programme of the President’s visit, his travel routes and important locations are under security coverage.”

Alongside ensuring the President’s security, maintaining normal movement of ordinary people and overall law-and-order situation during his visit are also being given due importance, they said.
