Gal Gadot on Wonder Woman 3: ‘It wasn’t handled elegantly’

Actor Gal Gadot has said James Gunn and Peter Safran told her they would develop a third Wonder Woman film with her, even though her time as the character now appears to be over. Questions have continued over what happened during the transition at DC Studios after Gadot said in 2023 that she had spoken with the new studio heads about another film, only for later reports to cast doubt on whether that was the plan.

Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gadot also criticised the way the exits of Henry Cavill and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins were handled during the reshaping of DC. At the same time, she said she understood that Gunn and Safran were pursuing their own vision for the studio.

When Gadot was asked whether she had been given a formal meeting with Gunn and Safran to explain that her time was up, she said: “No, they told me the opposite. They were like, ‘We’re going to develop it with you, the third’. But I saw the way everybody else (was) handled, right?” Her comments add to the confusion around Wonder Woman 3, with Gadot making clear that, from her perspective, she had been directly told that a third film was still being planned.

Gadot also spoke about what happened to some of her DCEU collaborators as Gunn and Safran prepared to launch their new DC Universe. Cavill had announced he was returning as Superman after a cameo in Black Adam, but later confirmed that he would not continue in the role under the new DC Studios leadership. Gunn has since described the situation around Cavill as “unfortunate” and “unfair.”

On that period, Gadot said, “The Henry situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least. Same with Patty. Was not handled elegantly.” She nevertheless said she understood the position Gunn and Safran were in, adding that ‘we’re all adults’ and that they are doing what they believe in.

DC Studios is still moving ahead with Wonder Woman as a character, with a new film currently in development and Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira attached to write the screenplay.

Gadot first appeared as Diana Prince in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, before featuring in 2017’s Wonder Woman and its 2020 sequel, Wonder Woman 1984. She also appeared in Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.

Gadot’s last release was the Netflix series, In the Hand of Dante, featuring actors Oscar Isaac and Gerard Butler in key roles.

The actor will next be seen in the Prime Video thriller, The Runner. The film will premiere on September 2, 2026.
