Like all other cinema halls in the country, the multiplex cinema hall Star Cineplex is currently closed due to the situation arising out of the coronavirus. From March 20 to April 2, all branches of Star Cineplex were closed. When all the Cineplex and hall are waiting to open, we heard a bad news.
Bashundhara City Shopping Mall will never open Star Cineplex again. This popular medium of entertainment for the people of Dhaka will be closed here forever. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, marketing and public relations officer of Star Cineplex, confirmed the information to the media on Tuesday (September 1) at noon.
He said, ‘Although it is painful but fact is that there is no Star Cineplex in Bashundhara City anymore. Because the authorities of Bashundhara City Shopping Mall have given us a notice to close the cineplex. They have new plans for shopping malls. If the landlord gives notice to leave, then the tenant does not have to do anything. But all our other branches will continue. ‘
Star Cineplex was launched in Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in 2002, it is the first cinema hall in the country with digital and state-of-the-art facilities. It won the hearts of the people of Dhaka and the movie-loving audience of the whole country. This cineplex in Bashundhara has been doing business successfully for 18 years by showing local and foreign movies.
In particular, they have released a lot of big budget movies on the day of international release to compete with the Hollywood market. That’s why Star Cineplex was very popular with Hollywood-loving viewers.
Mesbah Uddin Ahmed said, ‘We started through Bashundhara City, 18 years have passed here. Many big stars and talented people from home and abroad have set foot here. Film journalists used to gather in this courtyard with a lot of memories. The people of the country used to know Cineplex as Star Cineplex of this shopping mall. Changing the address of such a love is very difficult and emotional for us too. But there is nothing to do.
We invite everyone to the other branches of Cineplex. There will be no lack of hospitality or sincerity. ‘ At the moment, SKS (Army Welfare Organization) tower in Mohakhali, Dhanmondi’s Simanto Shambhar(Rifle Square) shopping mall Star Cineplex is open for movie lovers.
Star Cineplex is also going to open a branch in the shopping mall in place of Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur which being demolished. Besides, Star Cineplex has a branch called ‘Silver Screen’ on the seventh floor of Finlay Square Shopping Mall in Chittagong. The company is also planning to open branches in several other cities of the country soon.
