Appointing 409 anaesthesiologists a revolutionary step: Health minister

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleksaid, “in light of the Covid-19 pandemic it is a revolutionary step as 409 anesthesia doctors has been appointed in sixth grade. There is a great need for anesthesia doctors in hospitals in remote areas of the country. There were only 30 doctors serving in this post as opposed to the previously approved 608 posts. In 2020, 169 doctors have been promoted. There were no suitable candidates at that time, it was not possible to promote the remaining from the ranks for 409 posts. As a result, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission was requested to fill 409 vacant posts on July 7, 2021, a notification has been issued on September 5, 2021.” The health sector will be grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for appointing such a large number of doctors in such a short period of time, despite some irregularities, the minister remarked.
The health minister was present as the chief guest at the “Joining and Orientation Program of Newly Appointed Physicians for the post of Junior Consultant (Anesthesiology)” at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital this afternoon.

The health minister called upon the newly appointed doctors to work in remote areas of the country beyond surpassing all concerns. Promising to take care of all the facilities of the newly recruited, the health minister requested the doctors to work in the service of the common people of the country.
The health minister highlighted the contribution of the present government, especially Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in tackling the pandemic.
The minister also brought forth the importance of keeping the wheel of the country’s economy in motion and controlling the dire situationpaving the way for opening schools and colleges.

“There is currently no vaccine crisis in the country. At the beginning of this month, 54 lakh vaccines have arrived and by the end of the month, another 1.5 crore vaccines will come to the country”, the health minister said.

Lokman Hossain Miah, the senior secretary of the health services department presided over the event where the secretary of the health department (education) Md. Ali Noor, President of the Bangladesh Medical Association Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed, Director General of the Department of Health Prof. Dr. Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Medical Association Ehteshamul Haque Chowdhury, Secretary General of the Independence Medical Council (Swachip) MA Aziz, Bangladesh Awami League Health Secretary Rokeya Sultana and President of the Society of Anesthesia Dr. Devabrata also spoke on the occasion.
