“We all have dreams but not all of them come true”: Labonno

TBT REPORT

Labonno Chowdhury began her acting career as a child artist. More than a decade has passed since she embarked on her journey in acting. Recently, she appeared in the web film Mission DDLJ. She spoke to media about her new project and other aspects of her career.

You are acting in the web film Mission DDLJ. Tell us about it.

My character’s name is Diya. She is a very lively girl, but she is deeply fascinated by the love stories of the 1990s. She wants a life story and romance like those of that era and keeps trying to make that happen. Director Asif Jahangir Orko has beautifully portrayed the story. As for the meaning behind the title Mission DDLJ, viewers will understand it when they watch the film.

OTT content is being released constantly these days. Why should audiences watch Mission DDLJ at a time like this?

There are many layers to this content. One of them is that it is a sweet love story set against the backdrop of the 1990s. I believe those who enjoy stories from that era and want to experience that nostalgic feeling will enjoy our story. Most importantly, the film contains references to many movies from the 1990s.

Since it is a love story set in the 1990s, how challenging was it to portray the character?

There was not much of a challenge because the character is a girl from the present generation who wants to live and experience love like a girl from the 1990s. If I had actually been required to portray a girl from that era, the challenge would have been greater.

You started with commercials and later worked in films, television dramas and OTT. What differences have you noticed among these four platforms in terms of work and character portrayal?

Since the four platforms are completely different, the nature of the work and the pressure are naturally different as well. Films involve the most pressure because they are the biggest platform. However, the workload in OTT is no less than that of television dramas or films. Still, I really enjoy working on every platform.

Which platform would you like to focus on more now?

I have not worked much in television dramas before because of the pressure of my studies. That pressure has eased somewhat now, so I would like to focus a little more on dramas. Besides that, if I find good stories, I will work in films and OTT projects as well.

How much do you think Banalata Express has given your career?

Banalata Express is a huge milestone in my life. In terms of my career, I would give this film a 10 out of 10. I received the biggest response of my career for this project. In particular, it helped me establish better connections within the media industry. There were also many talented artists involved in the film, and I learned a lot from them.

You learned music with the intention of becoming a singer, but eventually became an actress...

We all have many dreams when we are young, but not all of them come true. Yes, I learned music for several years, especially because my mother wanted me to. But I could not pursue it further. Perhaps it was also because I did not feel strongly drawn to music. However, I have always had a passion for dance since childhood, and I learned it as well. Now, I am focused on acting.

What are your thoughts about acting at this stage of your career?

I want to continue working with dedication. I do not believe that I always have to play the lead heroine in films. Instead, I want to become a good actress who can excel in all kinds of roles. I hope to take on even better work in the future.
