The iconic on-screen pair of Salman Shah and Shabnur was one of the most beloved duos in Bangladeshi cinema during the 1990s. They are still widely regarded as one of the most popular pairs in the history of the country’s film industry. Now, after many years, movie lovers will once again have the chance to watch one of their films on the big screen.
A special open screening of the hit film Tomake Chai was held on Thursday, May 21, at 6:00 PM at the auditorium of Bangladesh Film Archive in Agargaon, Dhaka. Audiences watched the film completely free of charge.
Directed by Matin Rahman, the film was originally released in 1996. Alongside Salman Shah and Shabnur in the lead roles, Anwara and Reena Khan also played important characters. Following its release, the film became hugely popular and remains one of the most celebrated romantic Bangla films of the 1990s.
This special screening, organized by the Bangladesh Film Archive, is part of an initiative to give audiences the opportunity to re-experience classic Bangla films on the big screen. Organizers said anyone interested in watching Tomake Chai can attend the screening at the scheduled time on their own.
According to the Bangladesh Film Archive, such events are being held regularly to introduce the rich heritage of Bangla cinema to a new generation of viewers.
