Habiganj road crash kills 6

Six people were killed on Monday after a covered-van collided with a CNG-driven auto rickshaw on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Habiganj district.
The deceased were identified as Ahad Mia, 30, Hanufa, 25, Shohagh Mia, 28, Shopon Mia,25, Rahela, 30 and Alamgir Mia, 28.

The collision occurred when the driver of the auto rickshaw attempted to overtake a truck on the highway at around 7 am, said officer-in-charge of Shayestaganj Highway police camp Mainul Islam.

All of the deceased were employees of a PRAN Group factory and they were going to Olipur by the auto rickshaw , he added.

According to the OC , Six of them died on the spot while a survivor is currently being treated at Habiganj Sadar Hospital. He further said that a case will be filed over the matter soon. However, the truck driver managed to escape following the incident. Traffic movement on the highway was halted for at least two hours after the accident which created a long tailback on the busy route.
