Works underway to amend laws to ensure equal protection for all: Andaleeve

Information and Broadcasting Minister Barrister Andaleeve Rahman has said the government is working on amending various laws, including the cybersecurity act, to ensure equal protection for all.

"To make this process more effective, discussions are being held with stakeholders, including owners of television channels and newspaper editors,” he said.

The minister said policies are being formulated in such a way that equal protection for media personnel, the administration and commoners is guaranteed, and hoped that this ongoing initiative would soon yield positive results.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters on Wednesday night (October 21) during a visit to several puja mandaps in his home constituency, Bhola Sadar.

Andaleeve mentioned that members of the Hindu community were celebrating their religious festival this year with great joy and in an atmosphere of harmony.

Regarding the overall security for the puja celebrations, he said, “It is a matter of great satisfaction that everyone -Hindus, Muslims, and all others - is currently getting adequate security.”

He said after speaking with members of the Hindu community and leaders of the puja committees, he learned that there were no security concerns or issues whatsoever during the puja celebrations.

No untoward incidents occurred, and everyone celebrated their religious festival in a joyful atmosphere, he said.

Referring to the killing of a journalist in Netrokona, the information minister said any incident involving a violation of the law - regardless of whether it concerns a journalist or a member of any other profession - will be addressed in accordance with the existing laws.

On Wednesday night, the minister visited puja mandaps at nine temples in Bhola Sadar.

During his visit, Andaleeve was accompanied by leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) and its affiliated organisations.

To ensure a joyful Durga puja celebration, the information minister provided a grant totaling Taka 29 lakh to 29 puja mandaps in Bhola Sadar.
