President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged the Bangladesh Police to perform their duties with honesty, sincerity and professionalism to maintain law and order and effectively combat crimes.

"The police must be extremely strict in suppressing the wicked and just and humane in dealing with the virtuous," he said.

The President made the remarks when Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban this afternoon.

President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam briefed BSS after the meeting.

The President instructed the police to take urgent and appropriate measures to establish the rule of law in the country.

He also directed the IGP to take effective steps to curb cybercrimes, including the spread of misinformation, disinformation and rumours, as well as snatching, extortion and drug-related activities.

The President stressed ensuring the safety and security of women and children and instructed the police to continue taking effective measures to prevent extrajudicial killings, harassment of the public and filing of false cases.

During the meeting, the IGP briefed the President on various initiatives undertaken to strengthen the morale of police personnel and modernise the force.

He also sought the President's overall cooperation in discharging the responsibilities of the police force.

The President assured him of his full cooperation in this regard.

The President's Military Secretary and Press Secretary were present at the meeting.
