Bikash Kumar Choudhuri, one of the country’s popular and accomplished tabla players of the present time, is actively engaged in television, stage performances, and music teaching, leading a busy professional life.
Bikash Kumar Choudhuri was born in Sonakur village under Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore district.
His father was a skilled shreekhol (traditional percussion) player. He used to play the shreekhol in various kirtan performances and had earned considerable reputation for his talent.
From his early childhood, Bikash received musical training from his father and also learned shreekhol from him for a period of time.
Later, due to his strong interest in tabla, he shifted his focus and began formal training in tabla. In 2001, he received training under teacher Babu Bijon Debnath at Bandhan Sangeet Academy located in Bankra.
In 2002, he passed the first-year examination of tabla organized by Dhruva Parishad Bangladesh, securing first division. He later enrolled at Surdhwani Sangeet Niketan in Jessore for higher studies in music. In 2012, he achieved first place in the ninth-year tabla examination with first division.
Bikash Kumar Choudhuri has accompanied many renowned artists of the country as a tabla player, including celebrated musicians Abdul Jabbar, Asit Roy, Mita Haque, Salauddin Ahmed, Yakub Ali Khan, Fatema Tuz Zohra, and Chandana Majumdar, among others.
In his personal and professional life, he has worked with several music academies with distinction. He is currently serving as a senior examiner of Dhruva Parishad Bangladesh and is also associated with the Shansaptak Shilpi Sangathan.
When asked, Bikash Kumar Choudhuri said that his journey began with great hardship and that he had to make many sacrifices to learn tabla. Still, he never gave up and is now receiving love and appreciation from everyone.
He further added that he is deeply grateful to his guru Swapan Ghosh (India), saying that it is through his guidance and companionship that he has reached where he is today. He expressed his desire to remain connected with music for the rest of his life.
