Popular and increasingly busy vocalist, keyboardist, and composer Forhad Hossain is currently passing a hectic time in his musical career. He is working simultaneously as a singer and composer, while also performing regularly on stage and television shows. Alongside singing, he continues to work as a keyboardist and has already earned a solid reputation as a pianist.
In an exclusive conversation with this reporter, he shared insights into his dreams and journey.
Although born in Laksam upazila of Cumilla district, Forhad grew up in Mirpur, Dhaka. He received his first musical training under his mentor, the late SM Khalid Hossain.
He began singing at the age of just 13 and regularly performed at school and college programs. In his academic life, Forhad completed his intermediate studies at Government Bangla College and later earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the Government Music College.
In 2020, he released his first original song, “O Pakhi.” The lyrics were written by Ashik Ishtiaq, and the music was arranged by Bappi Chowdhury.
Later, he became an enlisted artist of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh Betar, and Bangladesh Television, where he regularly performs. He also continues to perform in various stage shows at home and abroad, along with regular appearances on television as both a singer and keyboardist.
So far, several original songs have been released in his voice, including “O Pakhi,” “Jodi Emon Hoto,” “Moner Patay Sarakkhon,” “Amay Tumi Cheyecho Eto Je,” and “O Shondha Tara.”
Notably, in 2023, Forhad secured first place in the Jari song category for the Dhaka division in the “National Education Week 2023” music competition organized by the National University.
He is set to release a new song titled “Brishti” soon, written by lyricist Habibur Rahman Murad and composed by Mashikur Rahman Bappi. The music video, directed by Kaushik Sarkar, will be released on Forhad’s official YouTube channel and Facebook page.
As a composer, he has also gained recognition in the audio industry. Artists such as Mofizur Rahman, MM Yunusur Rahman, Ujjal Robi, and Hirak Raja, among others, have performed songs composed by him. He has also shared studio space with renowned artists like Fahmida Nabi and Sujit Mustafa.
When asked about his journey, Forhad Hossain said he is deeply grateful to his mentors and teachers, including Dr. Chhanda Chakraborty, the late Mofizur Rahman, Dr. Sheikh Kamal Khalid, Dr. Fakir Shahidul Islam Suman, GM Saiful Islam, Adwaita Chandra Roy, Salahuddin Ahmed, and Sujit Mustafa, who have guided and inspired him throughout his career.
He added that he has had a strong passion for music since childhood and wishes to stay connected with it for the rest of his life, moving forward with the love and support of his audience.
