Govt continues relief work amid COVID-19 crisis

DHAKA, – The government is continuing relief distribution across the country as part of its humanitarian assistance to mitigate people’s sufferings in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to the information received from the district administrations of 64 districts as of June 05, nearly 2,01,417 tonnes of rice have been allocated as relief and distributed 1,63,898 tonnes of rice where the government has already reached out food relief to about 6.44 crore people of about 1.45 crore families across the country, said an official handout today.

The government has so far allocated more than Taka 116 crore in cash as relief for distribution.

Of the total amount, Taka 91,13,72,264 has been allocated as cash assistance and Taka 76,37,53,561 has already been distributed among about 3.86 crore people of about 86.50 lakh families across the country.

Besides, Taka 25.54 crore was allocated for baby food aid while nearly Taka 20.54 crore has already been distributed among about 13.61 lakh people of about 6.50 lakh families across the country.
