TBT Report :
Chief Coordinator (SDG Affairs) at PMO Md Abul Kalam Azad gave assurance of overall cooperation for the proper development of oceanography department of University of Dhaka. He also assured to help producing real oceanographers in the country for the development of sea resources.

He assured this after a meeting with Md. Jobaer Alam, Chairman, Department of Oceanography, University of Dhaka at PM’s office on Thursday. During the visit, Jobaer Alam mentioned about various problems and possibilities regarding the proper use and development of the country’s ocean science and the ocean economy. Jobaer Alam said that, “if we need to achieve something then first we need to plant the seed. In this case seed is the academic education.

But we are not being able to provide quality academic education due to lack of facilities. In 2012, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in the parliament that Oceanography Department should be opened as soon as possible. After that Oceanography department was opened in Dhaka University. But still there is no scope to provide quality education. If we want to extract real wealth from the sea, then we have to produce real oceanographer (sea scientist). University/academic institutions can do so. Jobaer Alam also added that oceanography is an applied science, if students get enough facilities then within 2030 we will get the real oceanographer”.

During the time, CEO of Green Tech Foundation Lutfur Rahman, Professor of International Business Administration (IBA) Department of Dhaka University Dr. AKM Saiful Mujid were among others also present at the occasion.
It is to be noted that, Md. Jobaer Alam, Chairman, Department of Oceanography, University of Dhaka has taken serious steps to develop Dhaka University’s Department of Oceanography and the country’s ocean resources.
