Barishal is out of mobile internet service ahead of BNP’s divisional rally. There have been reports of non-availability of high-speed mobile internet service from various parts of the city on Saturday (November 5). Authority showed a so-called ‘unavoidable’ reason behind it.

Before that Barishal has been suffering from a two-day transport strike in the name of demanding illegal vehicles be barred from highways along with a number of other demands.

The strike resulted in a suspension of launch, bus, microbus and three-wheeler services in the area which has ostensibly cut Barishal off from the rest of the country and has resulted in suffering for the general public. The mobile internet service cut has just worsened the situation.

Mobile internet was not available after 9 am Yesterday. For this, media workers faced hurdles to cover news on BNP’s rally. They had to run to different places to send news to Dhaka.

City dwellers expressed their anger and frustration at the situation.

Hanufa Akter, a resident of Govt Syed Hatem Ali College area, said that she got internet using WiFi at home in the morning, but was deprived of it after leaving the house as she did not get internet on her mobile phone.

Another city dweller Azim Hossain said the same thing – broadband internet is available, but mobile internet service is dead.

A senior official of a cell phone network services providing company in the Barisal division mentioned the cause as ‘unavoidable’.

He said, ‘Our service is temporarily closed. We are working with the concerned authorities to restore the service as soon as possible.’

He expressed regret on behalf of the company due to this temporary inconvenience.
