Monsoon is a long-awaited season after the tumults of summer pass us by. However, not all is roses and sunshine after the rain. Monsoon leads to quite a lot of troubles of its own kind. Most evidently noticed in the effects of the skin, the season’s increased moisture and humidity cause a bunch of problems like rashes, itchiness and dryness. The good grace in all this is that if you are prepared and all geared up, you can save yourself from a lot of troubles by taking preparations.

One of the preliminary things for facial care is to make sure that impurities do not clog up the pores in your skin. Proper cleansing is very important in this regard. Make sure to wash your face 2-3 times a day during these times. However, doing so with plain water will not be efficient enough, but using harsh soap cleansers would cause increased dryness. If you have oily skin, use a salicylic cleanser and if you have dry skin then opt for a gentle oil-based cleanser.

After cleansing properly, use a moisturizer on your face to make the skin supple and soft. For people with dry skin, the best moisturizer is pure coconut oil while people with oily skin can use more lightweight oil products that include hemp seed oil, olive oil, or cucumber extracts.

With a moisturizer, lock in the hydration in your skin cells, and then go over it with a sunscreen because even the rain cannot stop the harmful UV rays from sinking into your skin. Sunscreen is for all seasons around the year, so make sure that you never skip it. Use a water-based sunscreen that has more than SPF 50.

For further skin care, incorporate a clay mask in your skincare routine. The best ingredient for an effective home-made clay mask is Fuller’s Earth. Fuller Earth’s mattifying properties help to eliminate the oiliness and stickiness of skin that is a constant cause of breakouts during monsoon. Just mix a bit of Fuller’s Earth with water to prepare your clay mask, apply the paste on your skin and wash it away with plain water.

Exfoliate your skin twice a week by making a scrub at home. All you need for the scrub is some grounded coffee, sugar, tea bag, papaya or oatmeal mixed with pure coconut oil. Scrubbing can make your skin dry, but adding coconut oil to the mix will put some moisture into your skin and leave it baby soft.

To then further combat flaky or dry skin, apply some pure coconut oil on it after you have exfoliated, and cleansed. A mixture of coconut oil with a little bit of salt is specially recommended for people with Eczema, as a natural remedy to contain the extreme flakiness that is caused by this condition.

Take special care of your skin during monsoon, using nothing but natural ingredients at home. Pure coconut oil is a must have for such DIY masks, cleansers and scrubs. Add specific ingredients along with this magical elixir of coconut oil, and all your monsoon skin problems will stay at bay.
