BM depot fire completely douse after 86 hrs: Army official

CHATTOGRAM : The devastating fire at BM Container Depot in Shitolpur area under Sitakunda upazila of the district has finally been doused after 86 hours, said Lt Col Ariful Islam, commander of the 18th Brigade of Bangladesh Army 24th Infantry Division.
He said the fire was completely extinguished before the zero hours yesterday.
There are no flames anywhere in the container depot, he added.
“We joined here to douse the blaze since Sunday morning. In 24 hours, the blaze was below the danger line and was largely brought under control within 48 hours,” Lt Col Ariful said, adding that the army team will leave the BM depot this afternoon.
The army official said: “There were around 4,432 containers in the depot. Initially, we came to know that about 442 containers were destroyed completely in the fire.”
Meanwhile, the investigation committees have also been continuing their function and also visited the depot today, said Mizanur Rahman, additional divisional commissioner of Chattogram and also the head of a nine-member probe committee.
