Body of Biman Captain Nawshad may reach Dhaka on Thursday

NEW DELHI,  – The body of Biman Bangladesh Airlines pilot Captain Nawshad Ataul Qayyum may reach Dhaka on Thursday morning, if necessary formalities are completed in time.

Captain Nawshad passed away yesterday at Kingsway Hospitals in the Indian state of Maharashtra after fighting for life for four days as he was in “coma” in the hospital following a brain hemorrhage. His body is now at the hospital mortuary.

Highly placed sources familiar with the developments told BSS here today that they, in support of Bangladesh mission in New Delhi, are engaged in completing all official formalities to take the body to Bangladesh soon.

The mission has already sent one of its officers to Nagpur to facilitate the process. The body would be handed over to Bangladesh authority after autopsy, they added.

The sources, however, said Biman Bangladesh Airlines authorities have been planning to re-route one of its Dhaka-bound flight from Doha to Nagpur-Dhaka to take the body of Captain Nawshad.

They said that they are desperately trying to get landing permission of the Biman flight at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur along with obtaining permission from different authorities of the government of India to this end.

“If everything goes well and we can complete all necessary formalities, the body of the deceased captain will reach at Dhaka by 9.00 am (local time) on Thursday,” sources said.

The Dhaka-bound flight from Doha is scheduled to reach Nagpur airport at 5.00 am (Local time) on Thursday (September 2).

Two sisters of the deceased captain who are now in Nagpur will accompany the body to Dhaka.

The Dhaka-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Muscat BG 022 made an emergency landing at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur with 124 passengers on Friday morning when pilot Captain Nawshad Qayyum suffered heart attack in mid-air.

Immediately after landing, the sick pilot was sent to Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur where he was undergoing treatment at the ICU following brain hemorrhage.

A three-member doctor panel was formed for the treatment of Captain Nawshad.
