The government has taken the initiative to amend the Road Transport Act 2018 this year. The law speaks of the use of helmets, but the use of quality helmets is essential to reduce road accidents,” said Syed Abu Hossain Babla, a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and Member of Parliament for Dhaka-04. He said this while paying a courtesy call on the delegation of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Road Safety Project at his Dhaka office on Saturday.

Dhaka Ahsania Mission Road Safety Project Coordinator Sharmeen Rahman, Advocacy Officer (Policy) Dr. Tasnim Mehbuba Bandhan, and Advocacy Officer (Communication) Toshike Kaifu briefed Syed Abu Hossain Babla the MP about various activities including the Road Safety Project of Dhaka Ahsania Mission, a press release said.

At the time, the delegations said, “There are still some weak points in the current law of Bangladesh for which road users are being victims of law violations and accidents. The government has taken the initiative to amend the “Road Transport Act 2018” this year. It is imperative to include in the amended law specifying the speed of the vehicle, mandatory use of seatbelts for drivers and passengers, use of standard helmets, ensuring safe seats for children, etc.

The delegations sought the cooperation of Syed Abul Hossain Babla MP in this regard. He supported the delegations and thanked for the activities and assured the necessary cooperation.
