Bangladesh ranks first in South Asia in Cyber Security Index

DHAKA, – Bangladesh has secured the top position among the South Asian countries in the National Cyber Security Index (NCSI) prepared by Estonia-based e-Governance Academy Foundation.

Bangladesh achieved the top position by improving 27 notches in the NCSI. The country currently ranked the 38th position among 160 countries with a score of 59.74. It secured 65th position in the December 2020 index, a handout said.

NCSI was established to evaluate basic cyber attack preparedness, cyber events, criminal activity, and major crisis management efforts.

“Bangladesh’s cyber security capabilities are growing by the day, and it is receiving international recognition. The BGD e-GOV CIRT is dedicated to cyber security, and such acknowledgement will motivate us to fight cyber threats and improve Bangladesh’s cyber security skills,” said Tarique M Barkatullah, director of BGD e-GOV CIRT in a press release.

In the latest index released on the NCSI website, Greece was in the top position with a score of 96.10, while the Czech Republic stood second with a score of 92.21, followed by Estonia with score of 90.91.

The United States ranked 17th in the index while the UK ranked 19th.

Singapore is the only Asian nation making it to the top 20, with 16th position. Among other Asian countries, Sri Lanka ranked 69th, Pakistan 70, Japan, 34, and China 83.
