Earthquake claims life of son, father critically injured as wall collapses in Narsingdi

TBT REPORT

A 10-year-old boy was killed and his father critically injured after a wall collapsed on them during Friday morning’s earthquake in Gabtoli of Narsingdi.

The deceased, Omar (10), was a student at a local madrasa where he was enrolled in the Hifz section. His father, Ujjal, an office assistant at the National Housing Authority, is now undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The earthquake struck on Friday (21 November) morning. Locals rescued the injured father and son and initially took them to a nearby hospital. They were later transferred to DMCH, where doctors declared Omar dead upon arrival around 1pm. His father was admitted to the ICU in critical condition.

Speaking to reporters, the child’s uncle, Zakir, said the two were inside their rented residence in Gabtoli when the wall collapsed due to the tremor, leaving both severely injured. The family hails from Pakundia in Kishoreganj but had been living in Narsingdi’s Gabtoli area for work.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed that Omar’s body has been kept in the hospital morgue. He added that the boy’s father remains under intensive care following the incident.
