Bus-truck collision kills five in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, – At least five people were killed and 15 others injured as a passenger bus collided head on with an oil-laden truck at Konabari under Kamarkhand upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased were identified as freedom fighter Fazlur Rahman, 70, son of late Mokshed Ali, resident of Bogura’s Shajahanpur upazila, Bomal Kumar Das, 25, son of Dhiren Kumar Das of Sherpur upazila of the same district, Khokan, 30, son of Abdur Rouf Razzak, resident of Sariakandi upazila, Manik, 28, son of Ataur Rahman, inhabitant of Barotkala village under Shibganj upazila and Hannan Sheikh, 60, sons of Abul Hossain who is a resident of Tamai village under Belkuchi upazila in the district.

Mossadak Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone Police Station, said a Mymensingh-bound passenger bus of Jugantor Paribahan fell into a ditch after a head-on collision with a truck in the aforesaid area around 8am, leaving four people dead on the spot and 15 people injured. Later, the injured persons were sent to hospital where one of the injured died, the OC added.

Fire fighters recovered the bodies from the spot and sent those to Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib 250-bed General Hospital morgue.
