Journalist Md Jahidul Islam has received the “Mother Teresa Award 2025” in recognition of his contribution to journalism.
Noted film director Kazi Hayat and Former Information Secretary Syed Margub Morshed along with others handed over the award to Md Jahidul Islam at a programme held at hotel in the capital on Tuesday.
Sommilito Sangskritik Society organised the award ceremony to mark the 115th birth anniversary of Saint Mother Teresa.
About the award, Jahidul Islam said, “I’m thankful to the Sommilito Sangskritik Society for honouring me. This recognition is not just an award to me—it’s an inspiration. The award, which has been given to me in recognition of my work, will boost me up to be more dutiful towards my work. I’m very happy and feel honoured to receive this award. Please keep me in your prayers.”
Born on 3 March 1989 in Jashore, Md Jahidul Islam began his journalism career with Dainik Samachar, a Bengali daily, in 2010 when he was a student at Dhaka University. He later joined The Bangladesh Today, an English daily, as a Dhaka University reporter. He is now a senior sub-editor at the Daily Sun, one of the leading English newspapers in Bangladesh.
Throughout his career, Md Jahidul Islam has received a number of awards, including Bangladesh-Bharat(India)-Singapore (BaBhaSi) International Film Award, Sher-e-Bangla Golden Award, Bioscope Star Award and Excellence in Success Award 2025 for his contributions to journalism.
Md Jahidul Islam is the member of different organisation, including Bangladesh Federal Journalist Association and Bangladesh Cholochitro Sangbadik Samity. He is currently serves as the International Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Cultural Reporters’ Association (BCRA) and as Joint Secretary of the Greater Jashore Journalists’ Forum Dhaka.
