TBT DESK: Prominent banker Mohammad Abdul Mannan, currently Chairman of First Security Islami Bank PLC, has been elected Chairman of the Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB).
The announcement came during the 69th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Central Shariah Board, held recently at the head office of First Security Islami Bank.
With a long and respected career in Islamic banking, Mannan has played a pivotal role in shaping the financial sector. He is also serving as the Chairman of the Islamic Banks Consultative Forum and as Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB).
Mannan previously served as Managing Director and CEO of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC for three consecutive terms between 2010 and 2017. During his tenure, he was widely recognized for his leadership, receiving accolades such as the Central Shariah Board Islamic Banking Award and the prestigious Asian Banker CEO Leadership Achievement Award for three consecutive years-2013, 2014, and 2015. These honors placed him among the top-performing CEOs across the Asia-Pacific and Gulf regions.
His achievements go beyond corporate leadership. Mannan has been honored nationally and internationally, including being named Bangladesh's "Remittance Ambassador" and receiving India's "Sardar Patel Award."
The CSBIB meeting was attended by several distinguished figures in the Islamic banking sector, including Professor Dr. Mohammad Gias Uddin Talukder, Vice Chairman Dr. Md. Anwar Hosain Molla, Mufti Mohammd Muhibbullahil Baqee An-Nadwi (Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committees of Agrani Bank PLC and Premier Bank PLC), Mawlana Shah Mohammad Wali Ullah (Mercantile Bank PLC), Md. Fariduddin Ahmed (Union Bank PLC), Mosleh Uddin Ahmed (Managing Director, Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC), and Abu Reza Md. Yeahia (Managing Director, First Security Islami Bank PLC - current charge).
Also present was Md. Abdullah Sharif, Secretary General of CSBIB.
