BNP govt believes in rule of law, stability: Rizvi

BNP Acting Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the party believes in establishing peace, stability and the rule of law.

“The looting and anarchy of the fascist era must not be repeated under any circumstances,” he said.

Rizvi made the remarks as the chief guest at a memorial meeting held at the National Press Club today to mark the 10th death anniversary of former BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Brigadier General (Retd) A S M Hannan Shah.

The Hannan Shah Smriti Sangsad organised the meeting.

Addressing party leaders and activists, Rizvi urged them to demonstrate to ordinary voters that BNP leaders and activists are tolerant and do not behave like those during the fascist era.

He said the previous government had looted public money, grabbed people's land and even seized cows from cowsheds. It had created anarchy across the country and established a reign of looting. “The BNP would not follow that path; instead, it would establish peace and the rule of law,” he added.

Regarding the upcoming Durga Puja, Rizvi said defeated forces and their patrons might attempt to tarnish the government's image through acts of sabotage.

“Therefore, we must remain vigilant like sleepless sentinels. In consultation with Puja committees, arrangements must be made to guard every Puja mandap and keep them under constant watch,” he said.

He called on every party leader and activist to perform this duty voluntarily.

Recalling the distinguished political and professional life of A S M Hannan Shah, Rizvi said Hannan Shah was a symbol of courage and a fiery voice against injustice.

He said Hannan Shah had taken the helm of the party during various crises in the country, including the One-Eleven political crisis. Even while in prison, his dedication to the party remained unwavering. Despite his family facing financial difficulties due to his repeated imprisonment, he never wavered in his commitment to his duties.

Member of Parliament Fazlul Haque Milon presided over the meeting, while BNP Dhaka Divisional Assistant Organising Secretary Kazi Saiyedul Alam Babu attended as the chief discussant. Bir Muktijoddha Khandaker Azizur Rahman Pera moderated the event.
