Country’s flood situation may worsen

DHAKA,  – Country’s overall flood situation is likely to deteriorate in the next 24-hour as the water level of the main rivers including Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Ganga-Padma and upper Meghna basin of the north-eastern region is continuously rising and it may continue for next 72 hours.

The flood situation of Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogura, Jamalpur, Natore, Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona districts is likely to deteriorate in the next twenty-four hour, said a release issued by flood forecasting and warning center of the Water Development Board here today.

The water level of the Jamuna river at Kazipur and Sirajganj point and Padma river at Goalanda point may cross the danger mark in the next 24 hours, the release said.

Besides, the water level of Tista and Darala rivers also may continuously rising for the next twenty-four hours and the water level may cross the danger level. Heavy rainfall likely to occur at the south and east hilly areas in the next twenty-four hours and resulting in the water level of Sanghu, Matamuhuri, Halda and Muhuri rivers likely to rise quickly during this time.
