President goes to Patuakhali tomorrow on two-day visit

DHAKA,  – President M Abdul Hamid will leave Dhaka for Patuakhali tomorrow (Tuesday) on a two-day visit to attend several programmes at Dumki and Kalapara upazilas of the district.

The President, also the Chancellor of the university, will preside over the 2nd convocation ceremony of Patuakhali Science and Technology University
(PSTU) on its campus on February 5 while he will attend several other programmes at Kuakata of Kalapara Upazila of the coastal district, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.

Kuakata is a rare scenic Bangladesh eco-tourism destination under Kalapara Upazila, just about 70 kilometers away from the district headquarters of Patuakhali and 320 kilometers from the capital, Dhaka.

The head of the state is scheduled to be flown to Kuakata by helicopter tomorrow afternoon. From there he would fly to Dumki upazila where he would deliver his address on the PSTU campus at 3 pm on Thursday.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni will attend the ceremony as the special guest while former UGC Chairman and President of Bangladesh Academy of
Science Emeritus Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury will give his speech as the Convocation Speaker.

Talking to BSS, PSTU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Harun-Or-Rashid said a total of 2,929 students, including 1,970 graduates, will be conferred with
degrees.

Six students will get Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees and 63 graduates and post-graduates will be given gold medals for their outstanding
academic excellence, the VC added.
