Jubo League leader Samrat arrested

DHAKA : Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Jubo League’s Dhaka South unit President Ismail Hossain Samrat and his associate Arman in Cumilla on early Sunday, reports UNB.
Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem, director, legal and media wing of Rab, said they arrested the duo from Chauddagram upazila around 5am “on specific allegation”.
On the other hand, a mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) here on Sunday sentenced Jubo League Dhaka South unit President Ismail Hossain Samrat to six months’ jail under the Wildlife Conservation Act following a raid on his Kakrail office.
His associate Arman was also sentenced to six months’ jail on different count of offence. Rab executive Magistrate Mohammad Sarwar Alam came up with the information while talking to reporters after the end of the raid around 6:20 pm.
“Samrat was sentenced to six months’ jail for possessing two skins of wild animalswhich were recovered from his office while Arman got the punishment as he was found drunk when he was arrested from Cumilla,” said Sarwar Alam.
Besides, one foreign-made pistol, one magazine, five bullets, 19 bottles of foreign liquor, two machines of providing electric shocks and 1,160 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from the office of Samrat, said Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem, director, legal and media wing of Rab. Two separate cases will be filed against Samrat, he said.
“Who’s Samrat’s godfather and who was behind him will be known after interrogation in remand,” Kashemadded.
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) started a drive at the office of Samrat in the city’s Kakrail area along with him around 1:40 pm.
On September 24, the government imposed a travel ban on Samrat.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal recently said the Jubo League leader would be arrested if police found any proof against him.
