DHAKA, – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the anti-liberation forces are spreading rumours in the country and BNP is taking advantage of rumours after being defeated politically.
“Those, who did not want the independence of Bangladesh, are now hatching conspiracy against the country. They are spreading rumours consistently,” he said while addressing a discussion at Jatiya Press Club in the capital.
Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Parishad arranged the discussion marking the 89th birth anniversary of Fazilatunnesa.
Speaking as the chief guest, Hasan said a vested quarter earlier spread rumours over Padma Bridge and child-lifting and now they are spreading rumours about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Being defeated politically and losing conscience, BNP is taking advantage of rumours. After failing to face Sheikh Hasina and her party Awami League, BNP and its aides are spreading rumours,” he said.
“The people who do not want to see the country’s development are trying to create anarchy. We must resist those involved in anti-state activities,” he added.
Hasan, also Awami League publicity and publication secretary, said some BNP leaders claimed if BNP chairperson gets release, Aedes mosquito will go away, and their comments prove that they have lost conscience politically.
Khaleda Zia is a convict and if she gets release from court, the government and Awami League will not interfere, he said. He advised BNP leaders to strengthen ‘legal battle’ if they want to free Khaleda through court.
The information minister said after the killing of Bangabandhu in 1975, BNP founder Ziaur Rahman patronised and rehabilitated the anti-liberation forces and made Shah Aziz the country’s prime minister.
Ziaur Rahman went to the 1971 Liberation war for circumstance and worked as an agent of Pakistani forces in disguise of a freedom fighter and that was revealed later.
About Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, Hasan said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took many important decisions in consultation with Fazilatunnesa Mujib. All the decisions were closely related to the rise of Banglali nation, he said, adding Fazilatunnesa always helped Bangabandhu take the right decision.
“Bangamata considered the whole country as her family….when Bangabandhu was in jail, she ran her family as well as the party,” he said.
The AL leader recalled Sheikh Kamal, the elder son of Bangabandhu, on his birthday, saying Sheikh Kamal was sports and music lover and he had an outstanding contribution to the country’s liberation war.
Chaired by Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Parishad president Prof Dr Abdul Mannan, the discussion was addressed, among others, by general secretary of Dhaka South City unit of AL Shahe Alam Murad, and AL leaders Akhter Hossain and Arun Sarkar Rana.
