TBT DESK: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued a warning to job seekers and their guardians about fraudsters allegedly collecting money by falsely promising employment in the Income Tax Department.
In a statement released on Monday, the revenue authority said recruitment for vacant posts in the department is currently being conducted in line with government regulations and established procedures.
The NBR noted that it has received reports of organised fraud rings operating in different parts of the country, attempting to deceive aspiring candidates by claiming they can secure government jobs in exchange for money.
According to the statement, these groups are exploiting the hopes of job seekers and misleading them into believing that employment can be obtained through financial transactions rather than merit and due process.
The NBR further explained that some fraudsters may even return money to unsuccessful candidates who fail to qualify, creating a false impression of credibility. However, they are ultimately targeting those who secure jobs on their own merit, falsely taking credit for their success and misappropriating funds collected from them.
Reassuring applicants, the tax authority said the ongoing recruitment process is being carried out with complete transparency, accountability and adherence to legal procedures.
It added that successful candidates will be selected by a recruitment committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Public Administration, the Internal Resources Division, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission and the Income Tax Department.
The NBR urged job seekers, parents and guardians not to be influenced by any individual or group claiming to guarantee employment in exchange for money.
Anyone with information regarding such fraudulent activities has been requested to report the matter to the relevant tax commissioner's office or the NBR Public Relations Officer. Complaints can also be submitted by telephone at 02-222217777 or via email at pro@nbr.gov.bd.
The revenue authority reiterated that government recruitment is strictly merit-based and cautioned citizens to remain vigilant against fraudsters seeking to exploit employment opportunities for personal gain.
