

TBT DESK: Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Md Nurul Islam has inspected ongoing special citizen service activities being carried out at government accounts and finance offices across the country as part of the 53rd founding anniversary observance of the CAG Office.
The week-long programme, running from May 11 to May 19, is aimed at improving public service delivery, particularly for pensioners and government service recipients.
During the inspection, the CAG visited the Office of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) and reviewed activities being conducted by 50 Chief Accounts and Finance Officers’ offices operating under different ministries, divisions and government agencies.
Senior officials, including Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (Senior) Md Shariful Islam and Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (A&R) Saifullah Sobhan, were present during the visit.
Officials briefed the CAG on various public service initiatives currently underway, including instant support for salary and pension-related matters, life verification services, settlement of General Provident Fund issues, one-stop service centres, help desks and automation-based service delivery systems.
The programme also includes the use of mobile applications and digital platforms designed to simplify access to government financial services for retirees and employees.
During interactions with officials and employees, Md Nurul Islam directed the concerned authorities to speed up the disposal of pending family pension cases, restored pension matters and issues involving disabled children and their entitlements.
He said the government is committed to ensuring faster, more transparent and citizen-friendly public services through technology-driven and accountable administration.
“The aim is to build a service delivery system that is easier, humane and efficient for citizens,” he said, urging officials to perform their duties with sincerity and professionalism.
Pensioners and service recipients who visited the offices during the special service week expressed satisfaction over the promptness and cordiality of the services being provided.
According to officials, the programme is being conducted nationwide across 17 audit directorates, the CGA office, 50 CAFO offices, offices in all eight divisions, 64 districts and 495 upazilas.
Special service activities are also being carried out at finance and accounts offices linked to cantonments, the railway sector and other government institutions.
Under the initiative, services such as pay fixation, pension settlement, provident fund management, travel allowance bills, commutation bills and Net Entitlement cases are being processed on a priority basis to reduce delays and improve public convenience.
